Department of the Environment

The Department of the Environment has made a Statutory Rule entitled the Transfrontier Shipment of Waste (Fees) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 (S.R. 2005 No. 90).

The rule comes into operation on 6th April 2005.

The Rule, which is made under section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972, enables the Department of the Environment to charge fees for the assessment and monitoring of shipments of wastes between Northern Ireland and countries outside the UK, as provided by Article 33(1) of Council Regulation (EEC) No 259/93 on the supervision and control of shipments of waste within, into, and out of, the European Community.
