Proposed Bus Stop Clearways in Long Lane and Lower Addiscombe Road

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Croydon, propose to make the Croydon (Restriction of Waiting on Bus Stops) (No. ) Order 199  under sections 6 and 124 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Local Government Act 1985.   2. The general effect of the Order would be to further amend the Croydon (Restriction of Waiting on Bus Stops) Traffic Order 1991, so that waiting by vehicles would be prohibited between the 7 a.m. and 12 midnight throughout the week in lengths of Lower Addiscombe Road and Long Lane between the junctions with Woodside Court Road (north-west side), Park View Road (south-east side) and the boundary with the London Borough of Bromley, which areas will be marked on the carriageway thereof by a yellow “Bus Stop” marking and by a single yellow line within that marking.   3. The prohibition referred to in paragraph 2 above would not apply to:   (a) a vehicle being used for a London Bus Service whilst picking up or setting down passengers; or   (b) a vehicle being used for ambulance, fire brigade or police purposes; or   (c) in certain circumstances (e.g. to a vehicle being used in the service of a local authority, in connection with building operations etc., adjacent to the bus stop or to the removal of an obstruction to traffic or the repair etc., of the highway or of any of the services therein;   (d) where the person in control of the vehicle is required by law to stop or does so in order to avoid an accident;   (e) a licensed cab.   4. A copy of the proposed Order, of the Croydon (Restriction of Waiting on Bus Stops) Order 1991, of the Council’s statement of reasons for proposing to make the Order, and of a map which indicates the length of road to which the proposed Restriction of Waiting on Bus Stops relate can be inspected until the expiration of a period of 21 days from the date on which this notice is published during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive, at the Enquiry Counter, “One Stop” Facility, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon, Surrey.   5. Further information may be obtained by telephoning the Public Services and Works Department, London Borough of Croydon on 0181-686 4433, extension 3879.   6. Persons desiring to object to the proposed Order should send a statement in writing of their objection and the grounds thereof to the Order Making Section, Public Services and Works Department, Room 4.06, Municipal Offices, Fell Road, Croydon, quoting the reference TH/SJC/BSC, within the aforementioned period of 21 days.   7. The Councillors for these wards are Jerry Fitzpatrick, Sean Fitzsimons, Bernadette Khan, Eddy Arram, Avril Slipper, Peter Campbell and Derek Loughborough.   8. The proposed Order is intended to introduce and redesignate bus stop clearways in Lower Addiscombe Road and Long Lane to operate between 7 a.m. and 12 midnight throughout the week as part of the London south-west sector’s bus priority network designed to reduce delays to bus journey times and encourage greater use of public services by passengers.
