Land bounded by Atkins Way, Eaton Road, Mill Street, High Street, Ashbourne Road and Abbey Road

The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions hereby gives notice that he has made an Order under section 247 of the above Act entitled The Stopping-up of Highways (County of Staffordshire) (No. 5) Order 1998” authorising the stopping-up of parts of highway at Mill Street, High Street and Ashbourne Road as well as the creation of new footpaths from Atkins Way and Eaton Road to Mill Street and requiring the provision of new highway shown as stippled on the deposited plan and the improvement of existing highway shown as cross hatched on the deposited plan.
  The Order as made, will authorise the stopping-up only to enable the development described in the Schedule to this notice to be carried out in accordance with the planning permission granted by East Staffordshire Borough Council on 21st January 1998, under Ref. PA/24047/002.
  Copies of this Order may be obtained, free of charge, on application to the Government Office for the West Midlands at the offices of the Director, Planning, Transport and Environment, 77 Paradise Circus, Queensway, Birmingham B1 2DT (quoting 5074/35/1/95) and may be inspected at all reasonable hours at East Staffordshire Borough Council, Midland Grain Warehouse, Derby Street, Burton-upon-Trent DE14 2JJ.
  Any person aggrieved by the Order and desiring to question the validity thereof, or of any provision contained therein, on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the above Act or that any requirement of that Act or of any regulation made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may, within 6 weeks of 22nd May 1998, apply to the High Court for the suspension or quashing of the Order or of any provision contained therein.

Schedule

  Erection of 44 houses/flats and 4 shops where existing poor standard flats have been demolished by the local authority. The proposed development will rejuvenate the town centre and occupies the area at present taken by the highway known as Mill Street.
