DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT

TRANSPORT AND WORKS ACT 1992

The Secretary of State for Transport gives notice under section 14(1)(b), (2A) (3A) and (3AA) of the Transport and Works Act 1992 (“the Act”) that he has determined under section 13(1) of the Act to make with modifications the Blackpool Tramway (Blackpool North Extension) Order (“the Order”). The Order was applied for by Blackpool Borough Council, Town Hall, Blackpool FY1 1NB. It will authorise the construction and operation of the Blackpool North Extension (“BNE”), a 600 metre extension to the existing Blackpool Tramway system, from the tram line at North Pier stop extending eastwards along Talbot Road to terminate at Blackpool North railway station.

The Order will also authorise the compulsory acquisition and temporary use of land, powers to attach equipment and carry out protective works to buildings, powers to operate the system and powers to regulate or prohibit traffic. It would also update the operating regime for the existing Blackpool Tramway, currently authorised under the County of Lancashire Act 1984. Copies of the Order, once made, may be obtained from the Stationery Office or through booksellers.

The Secretary of State has, under section 14(1)(a) of the Act, given notice of his determination by way of a decision letter dated 30 November 2017, copies of which may be obtained from the TWA Orders Unit, Department for Transport, Zone 1/14, Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London, SW1P 4DR. That letter gives the reasons for the determination and the considerations upon which it is based; information about the public participation process; and information regarding the right to challenge the validity of the determination and the procedures for doing so.
