STATUTORY ORDERS (SPECIAL PROCEDURE) ACT 1945

TRANSPORT AND WORKS ACT 1992

Notice is hereby given pursuant to section 2(1) of the Statutory Orders (Special Procedure) Act 1945 (“the 1945 Act”), that the Secretary of State for Transport intends to lay the Midland Metro (Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Land Acquisition) Order 2020 (“the Order”) before Parliament on 8 July 2020 in accordance with section 2(2) of the 1945 Act.

The Order was made under sections 1 and 5 of the Transport and Works Act 1992 (“the 1992 Act”) pursuant to an application under that Act by the West Midlands Combined Authority (“WMCA”). The Order was made on 2 July 2020 by the Secretary of State for Transport. By virtue of section 12(1) of the 1992 Act, the Order is subject to Special Parliamentary Procedure.

The main purpose of the Order is to provide WMCA with powers of compulsory acquisition and temporary possession over land required for the construction and maintenance of works which were authorised by the Midland Metro (Wednesbury to Brierley Hill and Miscellaneous Amendments) Order 2005. Those works are an extension to Line 1 of the Metro system in Sandwell and Dudley from the existing Line 1 depot at Wednesbury to Brierley Hill via Dudley Town Centre.
