LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS
The Tower Hamlets (Bus Lanes) (No. 1) Traffic Order 1998

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, on 6th March 1998, made the above-mentioned Order under section 6 and 124 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by section 8 of, and Part 1 of Schedule 5, of the Local Government Act 1985.   2. The general effect of the Order will be to:   (a) provide a contra-flow bus lane for local bus service vehicles to operate at all times in a generally southerly and easterly direction through Abbott Road Underpass between the junction with Zetland Street and the junction with Abbott Road;   (b) to compel all vehicles to turn left from Zetland Street onto Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach Road except those vehicles permitted to enter and proceed in the bus lane.   3. Exemptions to (a) above will be provided:   (a) for Emergency Service vehicles;   (b) in relation to a vehicle being used in connection with the removal of any obstruction in the bus lane; or   (c) in relation to a vehicle being used in connection with the maintenance, improvement or reconstruction of the highway in or adjacent to the bus lane; or   (d) to any person causing or permitting any vehicle to enter or proceed in the bus lane if that person is obliged to do so in order to avoid an accident and forthwith causes that vehicle to leave the bus lane or if required by law to stop and as soon as reasonably practicable thereafter causes that vehicle to leave the bus lane.   4. A copy of the Order, which will come into operation on 16th March 1998, can be inspected at the Council Offices (Traffic Section), Southern Grove, Mile End, London E3 4PN, by prior appointment and during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive, until the expiration of a period of 6 weeks from the date on which this notice is published.   5. Any person desiring to question the validity of the Order or of any provision provided therein on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1985, or that any of the relevant requirements thereof or any relevant regulations made thereunder have not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within 6 weeks of the date on which the Order is made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
