UNIVERSITIES OF OXFORD AND CAMBRIDGE ACT 1923

A Statute made by the Governing Body of Clare College in the University of Cambridge, on 10th November 2000 amending Statutes III, VII, VIIII, XII and XVI, has been submitted for the approval of Her Majesty in Council, and notice of its having been so submitted is published in accordance with the provisions of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act 1923. The purpose of the amendments are: (a) to add Emeritus Fellowships to the present five classes of Fellowship; (b) to turn Class D from Life Fellowships into Senior Fellowships, whose holders automatically become Emeritus Fellows at 70 (earlier if they prefer); (c) to define the Governing Body and the Mastership electorate to comprise the Fellows in Classes A to E; (d) to provide that someone with 20 years in Classes A to E who leaves their current Fellowship on or after the age of sixty automatically becomes a Class D Fellow as at present; (e) to provide that someone with 20 years service who leaves before 60 automatically becomes an Emeritus Fellow; (f) to provide that someone with less than 20 years service who leaves their current Fellowship may be made an Emeritus Fellow by a two-thirds vote of those present at a Meeting of the Governing Body; (g) to provide for an Annual Meeting of the Fellowship to consider reports from the Master and College officers on the current and prospective affairs of the College.
