TRANSPORT AND WORKS ACT 1992
The Transport and Works (Applications and Objections Procedure) (England and Wales) Rules 2006
Rule 14(1)
The Ashton Vale to Temple Meads and Bristol City Centre Rapid Transit Order
NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR AN ORDER
Bristol City Council of The Council House, College Green, Bristol BS1 5TR and North Somerset Council of Town Hall, Walliscote Grove Road, Weston-super-Mare BS23 1UJ (together, “the Councils”) have applied to the Secretary of State for Transport under rules made under section 6 of the Transport and Works Act 1992 for the above-mentioned Order to be made under sections 1 and 3 of that Act.
The proposed Order would authorise the Councils to construct and operate works and to acquire compulsorily land and rights in land for the purpose of a rapid transit system between Ashton Vale, Temple Meads and Bristol City Centre. The rapid transit system would consist of a guided busway running from the Park and Ride site at Long Ashton, through Ashton Vale and Ashton Gate, crossing the River Avon via Ashton Avenue Bridge and running alongside Cumberland Road sharing the alignment of the Bristol Harbour Railway before crossing Prince Street Bridge and then, running on-street, completing an anti-clockwise loop around Bristol city centre via Temple Meads, Cabot Circus and Broadmead. Powers are sought in the Order for the guided busway system between Long Ashton Park and Ride and Prince Street Bridge and ancillary matters including works to the Bristol Harbour Railway, but not for the city centre loop.
The application is to be made subject to an environmental impact assessment.
The application contains a statement that a direction for deemed planning permission is being applied for in relation to the development that would be authorised by the Order.
Any objections to, or other representations about the proposals in the application for the proposed Order should be sent to the Secretary of State for Transport, Department for Transport, c/o TWA Orders Unit, Zone 1/31, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR (email: transportandworksact@dft.gsi.gov.uk) on or before Thursday, 22 July 2010.
