The Lewisham (Bus Lanes) (No. 1) Experimental Traffic Order 1998 The Lewisham (Waiting and Loading Restriction) (Amendment No. 40) Experimental Traffic Order 1998 (Burnt Ash Road, Burnt Ash Hill—London Bus Priority Network)

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Lewisham, in accordance with the provisions of sections 9 and 10 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) made the two traffic Orders mentioned above as part of London Bus Priority Network implementation on the 13th February 1998. The Orders will come into force on the 2nd March 1998 and can remain in force for up to 18 months.   The general nature and effect of the Orders will be to respectively:   (1) Introduce lengths of bus lane (for buses, coaches, taxis, dial-a-ride vehicles and pedal cycles):       (i) operating 7 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays in:        Burnt Ash Road, west side, northbound, from junction Effingham Road to 53m. south of junction Lee High Road;       (ii) operating 7 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., Mondays to Fridays in:        Burnt Ash Hill, east side, southbound, from junction Woodstock Court to 73m. north of junction Westhorne Avenue.   (2) Amend the Lewisham (Waiting and Loading Restriction) Order 1990, to introduce waiting and loading restrictions:     No waiting, no loading or unloading 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays in:       (a) Burnt Ash Road, both sides, from junction Effingham Road to Junction Lee High Road/Eltham Road;       (b) Burnt Ash Hill, both sides, from junction Woodstock Court to 35 metres north of junction Baring Road/Westhorne Avenue.   Exemptions from the restrictions include the carrying out of various statutory duties; stopping if required by law or to avoid an accident, vehicles being used for fire authority, ambulance or police purposes and anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform.   The Council will consider in due course whether the provisions of the Orders should be continued in force indefinitely by means of Orders under the terms of section 6 of the said Act of 1984. Persons desiring to object to the making of any Order for the purpose of such indefinite continuation in force may, within a period of 6 months from (a) the date of the experimental Order coming into force or (b) the date of coming into force of any variation or modification to the Order by another Order or under the provisions of section 10(2) of the 1984 Act, send a statement in writing of their objection and which must include the grounds on which it is made to Lewisham Design Services (Development & Support, ref. P. Sear), Laurence House, 2nd Floor, 1 Catford Road, London SE6 4RU.   During the period of operation of the Orders a copy of the Orders, of plans showing the location and nature of the measures, of the Council’s statement of reasons for making the Orders and of any Order revoked, suspended, varied or amended by either Order can be inspected during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive until the end of a period of 18 months from the date on which the Orders come into force at the offices of Lewisham Design Services (Development & Support), Laurence House, 2nd Floor, 1 Catford Road, Catford, London SE6 4RU, tel. 0181-695 6000, extn. 8203).   Any person wishing to question the validity of either Order, or of any of their provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or that any relevant requirement of that Act, or of any Instrument or regulation made thereunder has not been complied with may, within 6 weeks of the date on which the Order was made, apply for the purpose to the High Court.
