NOTICE OF PROPOSED COAST PROTECTION WORK

Tendring District Council, acting in their capacity as coast protection authority, hereby give notice under section 5(1) of the above Act that they propose to carry out coast protection work at Clacton and Holland-on-Sea (Grid reference 619750E 215810N) subject to appropriate grant aid being available.

The work will consist of the removal of existing groynes, their replacement with approximately 25 fishtail rock groynes and beach recharge. The objective of the work is to reduce the coastal erosion and flood risk to the local community and restore amenity and tourism value for Clacton and Holland-on-Sea for the next 100 years. The work is planned to commence in 2014.

The estimated cost of the work is £37 million.

Details of the work proposed can be inspected between 10:00am to 16:00pm, Monday to Friday at Clacton Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, CO15 1SE.

Any person may no later than 28 days after publication serve a notice of objection to the proposal on the Secretary of State and on the Council.

Any such notice must contain a statement of the grounds of objection and must be delivered by hand or sent by pre-post to the Secretary of State and to the Chief Executive of the Council. Notices to be posted may be addressed to the Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Flood Management, Nobel House, 17 Smith Square, London SW1P 3JR and to the Corporate Director at Tendring District Council, Public Experience, Town Hall, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, C015 1SE or email engineeringservices@tendringdc.gov.uk
