New style of grant of probate certificate issued

pile of yellow filesFrom 4 March, HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) will be issuing a new style of grant of probate certificate.

Additional counter-fraud measures have been added to the certificate, including:

  • a high-security hologram on the bottom right
  • a digital seal rather than an embossed seal
  • a digital signature instead of a wet signature
  • a validation telephone number for stakeholders 

Both the new and old style of certificate are valid.

Grants for probate applications made online will be printed in a central location, while probate registries will continue to print paper applications.
