The Department for Communities has made a Statutory Rule entitled “The Local Government (Coronavirus) (Flexibility of District Council Meetings) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2020”, (S.R. 2020 No. 74), which comes into operation on 1st May 2020. The Statutory Rule makes provision to enable councils in NI to hold meetings remotely, enabling councillors to continue to participate in local democracy whilst adhering to government guidelines on social distancing and self-isolation.
