ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14(1)(A) AND (7) AND 15(2)
THE A43 TRUNK ROAD (EVENLEY TO TOWCESTER, WEST NORTHAMPTONSHIRE) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company no.9346363) has made an Order on the A43 Trunk Road between Evenley and Towcester in the County of West Northamptonshire, to enable a new roundabout to be constructed and maintenance works to be carried out.
The effect of the Order, will be to –
(1) impose a 50 miles per hour speed limit on the northbound carriageway of the A43 between points 1150 metres southwest and 400 metres northeast of the centreline of the A413 overbridge, near Silverstone;
(2) impose a 40 miles per hour speed limit on –
(a) the northbound carriageway of the A43 from a point 400 metres northeast of the centreline of the A413 overbridge, near Silverstone, to a point 319 metres southwest of its roundabout junction with Brackley Road (Abthorpe Roundabout), near Towcester; and
(b) the southbound carriageway of the A43 from a point 70 metres southwest of its junction with Abthorpe Roundabout, to a point 850 metres northeast of the centreline of the A413 overbridge, near Silverstone;
(3) close –
(a) the northbound and southbound carriageways of the A43 between the roundabout junction with the A421 and the B4031 (Barley Mow Roundabout), near Evenley, and its roundabout junction with the A5 (Towcester Roundabout), at Towcester;
(b) any slip road or link road leading to or from the length of the A43 described in (3)(a) above;
(c) the layby adjacent to –
(i) the northbound carriageway of the A43 approximately 700 metres southwest of the centrepoint of Abthorpe Roundabout; and
(ii) the southbound carriageway of the A43 approximately 800 metres southwest of the centrepoint of Abthorpe Roundabout; and
(4) prohibit any vehicle from entering or leaving the length of the A43 described in (3)(a) above at the junction with any side road or access road.
The work is expected to start on Saturday 23 November 2024 and continue for approximately 18 months. The closures (except for laybys) and prohibition will be in operation overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 hours and are expected to be in operation for two nights from Saturday 23 November 2024 and for two nights from Tuesday 17 December 2024. The speed restrictions will be in operation from 20:00 hours on Saturday 23 November 2024 and the layby closures from 14:00 hours on Saturday 23 November 2024 and both will continue for 24 hours per day for the duration of the works.
The Order will come into force on 22 November 2024 and remain in force for the duration of the work.
Any vehicle being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions, closures and prohibition. Special forces vehicles will be exempt from the speed restrictions and vehicles being used in connection with the works or for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the closures and prohibition.
