Notice is hereby given that on 12 March 2025 South Tyneside Council made an Order under Sections 14(1) & 15 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991) because works are proposed to take place on or near a road detailed in the schedules below (‘the schedules’) in connection with the construction of the new South Tyneside College, South Shields.

The effect of the order will be to restrict or prohibit the use of certain roads for a temporary period.

The prohibitions shall only apply at such times and to such extent as indicated by the display of traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

The order will come into force immediately. The Council is satisfied that the execution of the works will take longer than eighteen months and the order shall be revoked as soon as the works are completed.

Schedules

Prohibition of entry: -

1. Barrington Street for its entire length.

2. Cornwallis Street, South Shields for its entire length.

3. Waterloo Square, South Shields northbound lane from its junction with Coronation Street / Garden Lane to its junction with Barrington Street.

4. East Street, South Shields from a point 23m north-east of its junction with Chapter Row eastwards for 83m

1. Garden Lane, South Shields into Waterloo Square.
