Belfast City Council Air Quality Management Order

Environment (Northern Ireland) Order 2002 Part III, Article 12(1)

The Belfast City Council, in exercise of the powers conferred upon it by Part III, Article 12 (1) of the Environment (Northern Ireland) Order 2002, hereby makes the following Order:-

1. This Order may be cited as the Belfast City Council Air Quality

Management Order - Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4 and shall come into effect on 31st August, 2004.

2. The areas to be designated as Air Quality Management Areas (designated areas) are displayed in map form and can be viewed by visiting the public display in the City Hall during the period from 1st August to 30th September, 2004, by visiting the website at www.belfastcity.gov.uk, or by contacting staff at the Environmental Health Service on Belfast 028 9027 0428.

3. The designated areas incorporate residential properties abutting the

following roads:

(i) The M1 / Westlink corridor from the Belfast City boundary at Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park to the end of the Westlink at the junction with Great George's Street and York Street including Stockman’s Lane and Kennedy Way;

(ii) Cromac Street to the junction with East Bridge Street and then from East Bridge Street to the junction with the Ravenhill and Albertbridge Roads and Short Strand;

(iii) The Upper Newtownards Road from the North Road junction to the Belfast City boundary at the Ulster Hospital incorporating the Knock Road to the City boundary at Laburnum Playing Fields and Hawthornden Way; and

(iv) The Ormeau Road from the junction with Donegall Pass to the Belfast City boundary at Galwally.

The areas are designated in relation to a likely breach of the nitrogen dioxide (annual and hourly mean) objectives and the particulate matter (annual and daily mean) objectives as specified in the Air Quality Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003.

This Order shall remain in force until it is varied or revoked by a subsequent Order.
