NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT IN PURSUANCE OF SECTION 34

Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 36(1)(a) of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 (As Amended), that applications have been made to SEPA by Scottish Water for consent to discharge the following:

WPC/N/72978

Up to a maximum of 530.94 m3 per day of treated sewage effluent from Salen Wastewater Treatment Works, Adjacent to Rose Cottage/Public Conveniences, A489 Salen Main Street, Salen, Isle of Mull to the Sound of Mull at NGR NM 5728 4416 and screened sewage effluent consisting of all flows in excess of the pass forward flow of 6.29 litres per second up to a maximum flow of 30 litres per second and screened sewage effluent in an emergency from a combined sewage overflow/emergency overflow serving the wastewater treatement works to the Sound of Mull at NM 5713 4351.

Up to a maximum of 13.2 m3 per day of treated sewage effluent from Ardmor Road Council Yard Area, Ardmor Road, Salen, Isle of Mull to the Sound of Mull at NGR NM 5762 4380.

The following points should be noted with respect to each application:

1.  The sewerage system will be designed to ensure that a discharge of sewage effluent from any emergency overflow will occur only in the event of an electrial power failure, rising main failure or blockage of the downstream sewer.

2.  The sewerage system will be designed to limit the occurrence of a discharge of storm sewage effluent from any combined sewer overflow to storm events and only after the storage capacity provided in the sewerage system has been exhausted.

Any person who wishes to make representations about these applications should do so in writing to the Senior Registry Officer, SEPA, Graesser House, Fodderty Way, Dingwall IV15 9XB not later than 18 October 2005 quoting reference number WPC/N/72978 or WPC/N/72979.
