Designation of Stalham Staithe Conservation Area

Notice is hereby given that the North Norfolk District Council, as Local Planning Authority, has, in accordance with the powers conferred on it by section 69 of the Listed Buildings Act 1990, designated as a Conservation Area, the part of its area described in the Schedule hereto.   The effect of the designation of this area is that special attention shall be paid to the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the designated area. The Listed Buildings Act 1990 makes it an offence, with certain exceptions, for anyone wishing to demolish a building, or part of a building, within a Conservation Area, to do so without first obtaining the consent of the Local Planning Authority. Section 211 Town and Country Planning Act 1990 controls the cutting down, lopping or uprooting of trees in a Conservation Area and specifies that the Local Planning Authority must be given 6 weeks notice of any intention to carry out such work.   The area will be known as the Stalham Staithe Conservation Area.   Plans showing the extent of the Conservation Area in detail may be inspected, free of charge, at the offices of the Chief Planning Officer, Council Offices, Holt Road, Cromer, Norfolk, at any time during normal office hours. Stalham Staithe Conservation Area

  Stalham Staithe Conservation Area is situated to the south of the A149 and the existing Stalham Conservation Area.   Its boundary follows the southern verge of the A149 in a north-westerly direction from its junction with Staithe Road to a track which runs along the eastern edge of the allotment gardens. It turns south following the track, passing to the rear of those properties known as River View and Arconda, then along the western edge of a field drain until it joins Mill Lane, where it turns south then west following the western edge of Mill Lane before passing behind those properties known as Nightingale Cottage, Briar Cottage and Haven Cottage where it rejoins Mill Road.   From here the boundary follows the southern edge of Mill Road in an easterly direction to Mill House where it turns east following first the field boundary then a land drain, passing south of a boat house before crossing Stalham Dike. The boundary then turns north following the eastern bank of Stalham Dike to a point just south of those properties known as Riversend and Brightside where it turns east then north before rejoining Staithe Road.   From here the boundary turns south-east following the southern edge of Staithe Road before rejoining the A149. 7th January 1998.
