Proposed Works on Stedham Common, Parish of Stedham with Iping, West Sussex

Notice is hereby given that an Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, will attend at Capron House, North Street, Midhurst, on Tuesday, 2nd June 1998, to hold a public local inquiry into an application by the Sussex Wildlife Trust for consent under section 194 of the Law of Property Act 1925 to the erection of a fence and 14 gates (eight bridle gates for riders and walkers, two kissing gates for walkers, and four vehicle gates) enclosing 34.9 hectares or thereabouts of Stedham Common approximately on a line following the Elsted Road, the A272, and the Minster Road, together with a corral in the south-west part of the Common, for the purpose of enabling grazing management to be restored to the heath land.
  The inquiry will begin on Tuesday, 2nd June 1998, at 10 a.m. An evening session will be held on Wednesday, 3rd June 1998, at 7 p.m. at the above-mentioned venue.
  It is desirable that all persons interested should attend the public inquiry. Any person desirous of being heard on the subject matter of the application, whether considered in relation to the benefit of the neighbourhood or to private interests, may, at the discretion of the Inspector, give evidence at the inquiry or may arrange for someone to do so on his behalf on the date mentioned above.
  Copies of the application by the Sussex Wildlife Trust, the applicant’s statement in support of the application, and a plan showing the common land affected and details of the proposals will be available for inspection during the three weeks preceding the public inquiry at The Hamilton Arms public house, Stedham, during opening hours, and at Midhurst Public Library, Knockhundred Row, Midhurst, during the hours of 9.30 am. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and at the Sussex Wildlife Trust, Woods Mill, Henfield, West Sussex BN5 9SD, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
