IPSWICH BOROUGH COUNCIL
Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas)
Act 1990
Notice is hereby given that the Ipswich Borough Council, in pursuance of its powers
under the above Act, have designated the under-mentioned area of the Borough as a
Conservation Area: Wet Dock Conservation Area (extension No. 1).
The area is bounded by the northern side of College Street opposite Wolseys Gateway
eastward to Key Street (but including the church and churchyard of St. Mary at the
Quay) to the Old Custom House where the boundary abuts that of the Central Conservation
Area. The Southern boundary runs to the rear of the quay on Albion Wharf westward
from the Old Custom House to the westernmost silo on St. Peters Dock where there is
a common boundary throughout with the Wet Dock Conservation Area. The western boundary
is contiguous with that of the Central Conservation Area running to the west of the
Pauls silo building and former Burtons premises from St. Peters Dock to College Street.
A plan showing the area referred to can be inspected during normal office hours
at the main reception desk, Civic Centre, Ipswich, and at the office of the County
Director of Environment and Transport, St. Edmund House, Rope Walk, Ipswich.
The effect of designation is that special attention will be paid to the desirability
of preserving or enhancing the character of the area. In particular, controls will
now apply regrading the demolition of buildings, the display of advertisements and
the felling or lopping of trees within the area. Owners or coccupiers wishing to carry
out works to buildings or trees within the area should seek advice from the Council’s
Head of Development Control before starting work.
Any enquiries regarding this notice and its effects should be addressed to the
Head of Development Control, Civic Centre, Civic Drive, Ipswich IP1 2EE, who will
be pleased to give information and advice.
