THE MARGATE PIER (TURNER CENTRE) ORDER
NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR AN ORDER

Kent County Council (“the Council”), of County Hall, Maidstone, Kent ME14 1XQ have applied to the Secretary of State for Transport, under section 6 of the Transport and Works Act 1992, for the above-mentioned Order under section 3 of that Act. The draft Order makes provision for the Council to construct and maintain Works in the district of Thanet consisting of an extension of the Stone Pier at Margate Harbour comprising an enclosed building to be used for an art gallery or other commercial or leisure purposes and a vehicular and pedestrian bridge structure linking that building to the Stone Pier. It would also empower the Council to construct an area of mitigation works for birds to the south of the Stone Pier. The draft Order would also confer various general powers on the Council in relation to those Works. Any objections to, or other representations about, the proposals in the application should be sent to the Secretary of State for Transport, Department for Transport, c/o Transport and Works Act Orders Unit, Corporate Secretariat Division, Zone 3/11, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR, on or before 13 April 2004. An objection or representation MUST (i) be received by the Secretary of State on or before 13 April 2004, (ii) be made in writing, (iii) state the grounds of the objection or representation, and (iv) indicate who is making the objection or representation, and (v) give an address to which correspondence relating to the objection or representation may be sent. The Secretary of State may make objections and other representations public and will copy them to the applicant for the Order.
