TRANSPORT AND WORKS ACT 1992

The Secretary of State for Transport gives notice pursuant to section 14(1)(b), (3A) and (3AA) of the Transport and Works Act 1992 (“the Act”) that he has determined under section 13(1) of the Act to make with modifications the Docklands Light Railway (Capacity Enhancement) Order 2005 (“the Order”). The Order was applied for by Docklands Light Railway Limited, PO Box 154, Castor Lane, Poplar, London, E14 0DX (“DLRL”). The Order will authorise DLRL to carry out works to upgrade the existing Docklands Light Railway between Bank and Lewisham, to allow for the operation of 3 car trains. The works mainly comprise improvements at stations, strengthening of viaducts and other structures and the replacement of the existing South Quay station with a new station over Millwall Cut. The works also include an expansion of the DLR Beckton Depot in the London Borough of Newham, to provide additional stabling for 3 car trains. In reaching his decision, the Secretary of State has complied with the requirements of paragraphs (a) and (c) of section 14(3A) of the Act about consideration of the environmental statement and of representations relating to it. For the purposes of section 14(3AA) of the Act he confirms that the main measures to avoid, reduce and, if possible, remedy any major adverse environmental effects are those set out in the conditions that he intends to attach to the deemed planning permission for the scheme and in the agreed Code of Construction Practice. Copies of the Order (once made) may be obtained from the Stationery Office Limited or through booksellers. E Harvey, Head of the TWA Orders Unit Department for Transport, Southside, 105 Victoria Street, London SW1E 6DT.
