DEPARTMENT FOR COMMUNITIES

THE SOCIAL SECURITY CONTRIBUTIONS AND BENEFITS (NORTHERN IRELAND) ACT 1992

THE STATUTORY SICK PAY (GENERAL) (CORONAVIRUS AMENDMENT) (NO. 3) REGULATIONS (NORTHERN IRELAND) 2020

The Department for Communities has made a Statutory Rule entitled The Statutory Sick Pay (General) (Coronavirus Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2020 (S.R. 2020 No.XX), which comes into operation on 16 April 2020.

These Regulations amend the Schedule to the Statutory Sick Pay (General) regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982 (S.R. 1982 No. 263) to add a new category of persons who are deemed to be incapable of work by reason of coronavirus. The effect of the amendment is that Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is extended to a person who is deemed to be incapable of work because the person is advised to stay at home to shield themselves as they are extremely vulnerable and at very high risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19) because of an underlying health condition.

Copies of the Rule may be purchased from the Stationery Office at www.tsoshop.co.uk or by contacting TSO Customer Services on 0333 202 5070 or viewed online at http://www.legislation.gov.uk/nisr.
