The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has made a Statutory Rule entitled "The Zoonoses (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2021" (S.R. 2021 No. 44) which comes into operation on 25th February 2021.

The Order makes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19, notifiable when it is detected in animals. This ensure that the Department can take appropriate control measures if required to protect human health.
