NOTICE OF CANCELLATION AND RE-DESIGNATION OF THE TAIN CONSERVATION AREA

NOTICE is hereby given that in accordance with Section 61 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997 the Highland Council has cancelled the existing Tain Conservation Area and simultaneously re-designated the Tain Conservation Area with altered boundaries.

A plan of the Tain Conservation Area showing the boundary and the accompanying Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan can be viewed online at https://her.highland.gov.uk/Designation/DHG5831. Alternatively, copies can be viewed by appointment at The Highland Council, 84 High St, Dingwall, IV15 9QN.

The extent of the Conservation Area may be seen by inspecting the plan, but as general guidance the following streets are included in whole or in part within the Conservation Area:

Academy Street, Ankerville Street, Ardross Terrace, Bank Street, Cadboll Place, Castle Brae, Castle Street, Chapel Road, Chapel Street, Craighill Terrace, Crammond Brae, Drummond Street, Duke Street, Dunrobin Street, Esther Place, Geanies Street, Glebe Crescent, Gower Street, Hartfield Road, Hartfield Street, High Street, Hill Street, King Street, Kirksheaf Road, Knockbreck Road, Knockbreck Street, Lamington Street, Manse Street, Market Street, Morangie Road, Moss Road, Munro Place, Murray Place, Murray Street, Petley Place, Petley Street, Quarry Lane, Queen Street, Rose Street, Ross Lane, Ross Street, Scotsburn Road, Shandwick Street, Shore Road, St Duthus Place, St Duthus Street, Stafford Street, Station Road, Sutherland Street, Tower Street, Upper King Street, Victoria Road, Vine Place.

It is the duty of the Council to pay special attention to the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the Conservation Area when dealing with planning applications. Conservation Area designation brings most types of development under planning control including external building alterations, satellite dishes, alterations to and erection of new external walls and boundary enclosures, erection of ancillary buildings and alterations to windows and doors. Subject to the provisions of Section 67 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997 no building in a Conservation Area may be demolished without the consent of the Planning Authority. Subject to the provisions of Sections 172 and 173 of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997, the Council must be given six weeks’ notice of proposals to carry out work on trees in the Conservation Area, including uprooting, felling and lopping.
