The Department of Health has made a Statutory Rule entitled "The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Wearing of Face Coverings)(Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2022 ", (S.R. 2022 No. 11), which come into operation at the time they are made.

This rule amends the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Wearing of Face Coverings) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2021 by removing the requirement for an individual to prove their exemption if requested and reintroducing the reasonable excuse of “severe distress”.
