NOTICE PUBLICISING A PROPOSED APPLICATION FOR A DEVELOPMENT CONSENT ORDER

GATE BURTON ENERGY PARK LIMITED, a subsidiary of Low Carbon Limited, of Stirling Square, 5-7 Carlton Gardens, London, SW1Y 5AD (company number 12660764) (“the Applicant”) proposes to make an application (“the Application”) under Section 37 of the Planning Act 2008 to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy for a Development Consent Order to authorise the construction, operation and decommissioning of a solar photovoltaic (PV) array generating facility and energy storage facility with a total capacity exceeding 50 megawatts (MW) and export connection to the National Grid (“the Scheme”).

The Application is for the proposed Gate Burton Energy Park on farmland south east of Gainsborough and to the east of the A156 at Gate Burton and to the west of the B1241 at Willingham by Stow (the “Site”). The Application comprises of the ‘Solar and Energy Storage Park’ and a grid cable connection corridor to National Grid’s 400kv Cottam substation which is located to the SW of the Site in Nottinghamshire.

The Scheme’s main proposals in summary are:

• Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels;

• Battery energy storage system;

• Associated energy infrastructure (e.g. power conversion stations and cabling) and ancillary works;

• On-site substation; and

• A grid cable connection corridor to National Grid’s 400kV Cottam substation located in Nottinghamshire.

In addition, any necessary rights and powers will be sought to ensure delivery of the Scheme, including compulsory acquisition of land or an interest in or right over land and temporary use powers and, if required, powers to apply and/or disapply legislation relevant to the Scheme.

The Scheme is an Environmental Impact Assessment development (“EIA development”) as it falls within Schedule 2 of the Infrastructure Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2017 and is likely to have significant effects on the environment by virtue of factors such as its nature, size and location. As a result, an Environmental Statement will be submitted and published as part of the Application. Preliminary Environmental Information (“PEI”) Report forms part of the consultation material, along with a Non-Technical Summary of the PEI Report.

Consultation on the proposals will take place from 22nd June 2022 to 5th August 2022. Responses must be received no later than 5 August 2022 by 11:59pm and responses received after that date may not be considered.

Gate Burton Energy Park Limited will consider and have regard to all responses when developing the Application for a Development Consent Order once consultation has closed. Responses will form the basis of a Consultation Report that will be one of the factors taken into consideration by the Secretary of State when deciding whether the Application can be accepted for examination. Therefore, in providing any comment, it should be borne in mind that the substance of it may be communicated to others as part of the Consultation Report.
