THE ELECTRICITY GENERATING STATIONS (VARIATION OF CONSENTS) (ENGLAND AND WALES) REGULATIONS 2013 – REGULATION 5 (‘THE VARIATION REGULATIONS’)
Notice of an application to vary the Section 36 Consent for Great Yarmouth Power Station, South Denes Road, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR30 3PY.
Notice is hereby given that RWE Generation UK plc, Company number: 03892782, (the ‘Applicant’) having their registered office at Windmill Hill Business Park, Whitehill Way, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN5 6PB, has made an application (the ‘Variation Application’) to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero (the ‘Appropriate Authority’) to vary the consent granted to Great Yarmouth Power Station on 23rd April 1996 and further varied on 4th April 2001 (together, the ‘Section 36 Consent’) and the direction under section 90(2) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (‘deemed planning permission’).
The Variation Application requests that the Secretary of State in the exercise of their powers under Section 36C of the Electricity Act 1989 varies the Section 36 Consent to authorise the operation of Great Yarmouth Power Station at a gross generation of up to 430 MWe.
RWE Generation UK plc has received notice under Regulation 4(6) of the Variation Regulations that the Secretary of State considered that the variation application is suitable for publication on 15th January 2024.

Copies of the Variation Application documents may be inspected at Great Yarmouth Library, Tolhouse St, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2SH during the consultation period from 17th of May, 2024, to 28th of June, 2024, at the following times:

Wednesday 9:30 am – 7pm
Thursday 9:30 am – 7pm
Friday 9:30 am – 7pm
Saturday 10 am – 4 pm

Any person wishing to make objections to or representations about the Variation Application to the Appropriate Authority must do so no later than the 28th of June, 2024, by sending any such representations by email to: energyinfrastructureplanning@energysecurity.gov.uk or in writing to the Energy Infrastructure Planning, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, 3-8 Whitehall Place, London, SW1A 2AW.
Pursuant to Regulation 8 of the Variation Regulations the Appropriate Authority may cause a public inquiry to be held into the Variation Application if it considers it appropriate to do so having considered:
(a) Any representation made about the Variation Application to the Appropriate Authority
i. Which a relevant planning authority makes within two months of the date on which a copy of the Variation Application was served on it under Regulations 5(2B) of the Variation Regulations; and
ii. Which any other person makes on or before the date specified in accordance with Regulation 5(5)(b)(iii) or the Variation Regulations, where those representations are not withdrawn; and
(b) All other material considerations
Representations received by the Appropriate Authority will be handled in compliance with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s Privacy Notice (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/desnz-correspondence-privacy-notice/privacy-notice-relating-to-correspondence-received-by-desnz).
Any representations received by the Appropriate Authority will be shared with the Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Norfolk County Council and the Applicant, with personal information removed.
The Appropriate Authority may decide to vary the consent or may refuse to vary the consent.
