LONDON BOROUGH OF ISLINGTON

THE ISLINGTON ANTI-TERRORISM (NO. 1) TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2024

1) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Islington after liaising with the Metropolitan Police made the above-mentioned Order on Thursday 8 August 2024 under Sections 6, 22C and 124 of and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, and of all other powers thereunto enabling.

2) The general effect of the Order which will come into effect on Friday 9 August 2024 will be to maintain the existing traffic management arrangements in the vicinity of the Emirates Stadium on scheduled event days. Additionally, the order will allow ad hoc closures to motorised traffic or all vehicular traffic or all traffic, including pedestrians when intelligence dictates, or the threat level is sufficient to require additional restrictions upon traffic movement. This is for the purpose of avoiding or reducing the likelihood of danger or damage connected with terrorism.

When the order is activated to counter an increased threat, it will remain in operation only for as long as is absolutely necessary to deal with the incident. Pedestrians, both resident and working within the closure area will continue to have access facilitated under the discretion of a constable or designated person.

3) A copy of the made Order and other documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order are available for inspection. Copies of these documents may be obtained either by emailing environment@islington.gov.uk, by telephoning Environment on 020 7527 2000 or by sending a postal request to Environment, 1 Cottage Road, London N7 8TP. You can arrange an inspection in person by emailing environment@islington.gov.uk or calling 020 7527 2000.

4) Any person who wishes to question the validity of the Order, or of any provisions contained therein on the grounds that it or they are not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any requirement thereof or any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may make application for the purpose to the High Court within six weeks from the date on which the Order is made.
