CHANGES TO ON-STREET PARKING PLACES PAY AND DISPLAY OR PAY BY PHONE / INTERNET CHARGES

THE MERTON (PARKING PLACES) (ON-STREET PARKING CHARGES) ORDER 2024

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Merton, on 12 August 2024, made the above-mentioned Order under sections 45, 46 and 124 of and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

2. The general effect of the Order will be to vary the charges for pay and display/pay by mobile or internet parking places in the roads or lengths of roads specified in:-

(a) Schedule 1 to this notice from £4.50 per hour to £5.10 per hour;

(b) Schedule 2 to this notice from £1.50 per hour to £1.70 per hour;

(c) Schedule 3 to this notice from £3.00 per hour to £3.40 per hour;

(d) Schedule 4 to this notice from £1.50 per hour to £1.70 per hour.

NB 1: payment for ‘pay and display’ parking places via mobile or via the internet will continue to incur a 20 pence service charge.

NB 2: any ‘pay and display’ parking places with the first 20 or 30 minutes free, will continue to have the first 20 or 30 minutes free.

3. A copy the Order, which will come into force on 3 September 2024 and other documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order, can be inspected during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive until the end of six weeks from the date on which the Order was made at Merton Link, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden SM4 5DX. Further information can also be viewed at all Merton operated libraries and on the Council’s website at www.merton.gov.uk/parkingconsultation2024.

4. Any person desiring to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained therein on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or that any of the relevant requirements thereof, or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within six weeks from the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
