ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTIONS 14(1)(A) AND (7) AND 15(2)

THE A46 TRUNK ROAD (SAXONDALE TO NEWARK-ON-TRENT, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company no.9346363) has made an Order on the A46 Trunk Road between Saxondale and Newark-on-Trent, in the County of Nottinghamshire, to enable the construction of a new roundabout.

The effect of the Order will be to, at different times. –

(1) impose a 40 miles per hour speed limit on-

(a) the northbound carriageway of the A46 from a point 904 metres northeast of the centreline of Moor Lane Overbridge, at East Stoke, to a point 387 metres southwest of the centrepoint of its roundabout junction with Fosse Road and Farndon Road (Farndon Roundabout), at Farndon; and

(b) the southbound carriageway of the A46 from a point 175 metres southwest of the centrepoint of Farndon Roundabout to a point 404 metres southwest of the centreline of Hawton Lane Overbridge, at Farndon;

(2) close –

(a) the northbound carriageway of the A46 from its junction with the slip road leading to the roundabout junction with the A52, The Fosse and Main Street (Bingham Interchange), at Saxondale, to its roundabout junction with Lincoln Road and the slip roads leading to and from the A1 northbound (Brownhills Roundabout) at Newark-on-Trent;

(b) the southbound carriageway of the A46 from its junction with Brownhills Roundabout, to its junction with the slip road leading from Bingham Interchange;

(c) any slip road or link road leading to or from the lengths of the A46 described in (2)(a) and (b) above; and

(d) any layby adjacent to the lengths of the A46 described in (2)(a) and (b) above

(3) close the northbound carriageway of the A46 between points 1300 metres southwest and 150 metres southwest of its junction with Farndon Roundabout, and allow traffic to use lane 2 of the southbound carriageway in contraflow manner;

(4) close the southbound carriageway of the A46 between points 150 metres southwest and 1300 metres southwest of its junction with Farndon Roundabout, and allow traffic to use lane 2 of the northbound carriageway in contraflow manner; and

(5) prohibit any vehicle with an overall width exceeding 2.9 metres from entering or proceeding on the lengths of the A46 described in (2)(a) and (b) above;

The work is expected to start on Sunday 23 February 2025 and continue for approximately nineteen months. The closures at (2)(a), (b) and (c) will be in operation overnight only between 20:00 hours and 07:00 hours. The layby closures will be in operation from 14:00 hours and the speed restriction, contraflow and width restriction from 20:00 hours on Sunday 23 February 2025 and will continue for twenty-four hours per day, for the duration of the works. The Order will come into force on 21 February 2025.

Any vehicle being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restriction, weight restriction, closures and prohibition. Special forces vehicles will be exempt from the speed restriction and vehicles being used in connection with the works or for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the closures.

Diversion routes via the A52 and the A1 and vice versa will be signed.
