ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

THE VARIOUS GLA ROADS AND GLA SIDE ROADS

LONDON BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK (TEMPORARY SPEED LIMIT AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC AND STOPPING) ORDER 2025

1. Transport for London hereby gives notice that it intends to make the above named Traffic Order under section 14(1), (5), (7) and 15(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and is satisfied that these works will last in excess of 18 months for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to enable highway improvement and development associated works to take place at various locations in the London Borough of Southwark and to minimise the impact of goods vehicle traffic associated with the works on local residents and businesses.

3. The effect of the Order will be to:

(1) prohibit any vehicle from entering, exiting, stopping or proceeding on any road in schedule 1 of the Order;

(2) prohibit any vehicle exceeding a certain weight, length or height from entering or proceeding on any road listed in schedule 1 of the Order;

(3) prohibit any vehicle from exceeding a speed of 20 mph on any road listed in schedule 1 of the Order which does not already have a 20 mph speed limit;

(4) prohibit any vehicle from turning right or left onto or out of any road listed in the schedule 1 of the Order;

(5) introduce temporary parking, loading, waiting, disabled persons vehicles bays or Taxi bays on any road listed in schedule 1 of the Order;

(6) prohibit any pedestrian from proceeding on any footway on any road listed in schedule 1 of the Order;

(7) prohibit any vehicle from making a U-turn on any road listed in schedule 1 of the Order;

(8) suspend or introduce one way operations on any road listed in schedule 1 of the Order;

(9) suspend any banned turn or prescribed route on any road listed in schedule 1 of the Order;

(10) introduce temporary mandatory or contraflow cycle lanes on any road in schedule 1 of the Order;

(11) suspend any cycle lane or cycle track on any road listed in schedule 1 of the Order;

(12) permit vehicles of a certain class to use any bus lane on any road in schedule 1 of the Order;

(13) prohibit any class of vehicle to use any bus lane in schedule 1 of the Order.

The Order will be effective at certain times from 12.01 AM on the 3rd May 2025 until the works have been completed. The prohibition will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

4. The prohibitions except article 3 (3) will not apply in respect of:

(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;

(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London or the London Borough of Southwark.

5. At such times as the traffic prohibitions are in force alternative routes will be indicated by traffic signs via local roads.

6. The Order will be revoked upon completion of these works.

SCHEDULE 1 GLA ROADS – IN THE LONDON BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK

(1) St Thomas Street and between its junctions with Bermondsey Street and Borough High Street;

(2) Southwark Street between its junctions with Borough High Street and Southwark Bridge Road;

(3) Borough High Street between its junctions with Marshalsea Road and Duke Street Hill;

(4) Great Dover Street between its junctions with Borough High Street and the circulatory traffic system at the junctions of New Kent Road, Old Kent Road, Great Dover Street and Tower Bridge Road hereafter referred to as Bricklayers Arms Roundabout;

(5) Tower Bridge Road from its junction with Bricklayers Arms Roundabout to the Loading, Unloading and Disabled Persons vehicle bay on Tower Bridge Road adjacent to No. 224a Tower Bridge Road;

(6) Tooley Street between its junctions with Duke Street Hill and Jamaica Road;

(7) Duke Street Hill between its junctions with Borough High Street and Tooley Street;

(8) Tanner Street from its junctions with Druid Street and Jamaica Road;

(9) Druid Street between its junctions with Crucifix Lane and Tanner Street;

(10) Crucifix Lane between its junctions with Druid Street and St Thomas Street;

(11) Bermondsey Street between its junctions with Bermondsey Street and Tooley Street;

(12) Bricklayers Arms Roundabout.
