GENERAL IMPORT LICENCE

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in accordance with the above legislation, hereby authorises subject to the conditions attached to this licence the landing in Northern Ireland of:-

MEAT AND MEAT PRODUCTS (INCLUDING POULTRY AND GAME) FOR PERSONAL CONSUMPTION

ORIGINATING FROM

EU MEMBER STATES, ANDORRA, THE CANARY ISLANDS, NORWAY, SAN MARINO, LIECHTENSTEIN, SWITZERLAND, GREAT BRITAIN, THE ISLE OF MAN AND THE CHANNEL ISLANDS

Subject to the following conditions:

1. Any product imported under the terms of this licence shall be for personal use only (see Note 2).
2. Products in which trade is prohibited by a declaration under Regulation 35 of the Products of Animal Origin (Import and Export) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998 (as amended) may not be imported under this licence (see Note 3).
3. The importation of “high risk” material, as defined in Council Regulation (EC) No 1774/2002 (as amended) is not permitted.
4. Products which are subject to any prohibition imposed for the further purpose of protecting animal health by any European Community legislation or domestic restrictions shall not be imported save as permitted by or in pursuance of such instrument (see Note 4).
5. This licence revokes and replaces DARD/GEN/04/10 of 17 November 2004 and will remain valid until further notice or unless the licence is revoked by the Department.

 NOTES

1. Any breach of any conditions attached to this licence will constitute an offence against the Diseases of Animals (Northern Ireland) Order 1981.
2. The meat and meat products must be intended for personal consumption and NOT for resale.
3. Under Regulation 35 of the Products of Animal Origin (Import and Export) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998 (as amended) in the event of the occurrence in another country of a disease, zoonosis or other cause liable to present a serious threat to the public or animal health, the Department may issue a declaration giving notice of the problem. Such a declaration may specify types of products which may not be imported from the affected country or region.
4. Nothing in this licence gives exemption from any requirement or restriction imposed by the Imported Food Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1997, the provisions of the Food Safety Order (Northern Ireland) 1991 and Regulations made under it, the Animal By- Products (Identification) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003, the Marketing Authorisations for Veterinary Medicine Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2008 or by any regulation superseding or amending the same.
5. It is the importer’s responsibility to ensure that any import covered by this licence complies with the terms and conditions as set out.
