The Queen has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 1st November 2002 to confer the dignity of a Barony of the United Kingdom for life upon the Right Reverend and Right Honourable George Leonard Carey lately Archbishop of Canterbury, by the name, style and title of Baron Carey of Clifton, of Clifton in the City and County of Bristol.
