NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT IN PURSUANCE OF SECTION 34
Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 36(1)(a) of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 (As Amended), that applications have been made to SEPA by Scottish Water for consent to discharge the following:
WPC/N/72643
Up to a maximum of 5244.5 m3 per day of septic tank treated effluent and settled and screened storm sewage from a new Wastewater Treatment Works at The Ard, east of Port Ellen to Caolas Eilean Nan Cacrach at NGR NR 372 444.
WPC/N/72644
Up to a maximum of 356.4 m3 per day of settled and screened storm sewage from a combined sewer overflow and emergency overflow serving a sewage pumping station at the intersection of Charlotte Street and Pier Road, opposite Islay Hotel, Port Ellen to Loch Leodamis at NGR NR 3650 4521.
WPC/N/72645
Up to a maximum of 1785.6 m3 per day of settled and screened storm sewage from a combined sewer overflow and emergency overflow serving a sewage pumping station at Lennox Street, Port Ellen to Loch Leodamis at NGR NR 3665 4514.

Up to a maximum of 122.1 m3 per day of settled and screened domestic sewage effluent from an emergency overflow serving a sewage pumping station at Oa Road, adjacent to The Maltings, Port Ellen to Kilnaughton Bay at NGR NR 3591 4565.
WPC/N/72649
Up to a maximum of 7.92 m3 per day of settled and screened storm sewage from a combined sewer overflow and emergency overflow serving a sewage pumping station at the end of Fredrick Crescent, Port Ellen to Loch Leodamis at NGR NR 3648 4489.
The following points should be noted with respect to each application:
1. The sewerage system will be designed to ensure that a discharge of sewage effluent from any emergency overflow will occur only in the event of an electrical power failure, rising main failure or blockage of the downstream sewer.
2. The sewerage system will be designed to limit the occurrence of a discharge of storm sewage effluent from any combined sewer overflow to storm events and only after the storage capacity provided in the sewerage system has been exhausted.
Any person who wishes to make representations about the application should do so in writing to the Senior Registry Officer, SEPA, Graesser House, Fodderty Way, Dingwall IV15 9XB, not later than 5 July 2005 quoting reference WPC/N/72643, WPC/N/72644, WPC/N/72645, WPC/N/72648 or WPC/N/72649.
A copy of the application may be inspected free of charge, at the above address, the SEPA Lochgilphead office, 2 Smithy Lane, Lochgilphead PA31 8TA or at Port Ellen Post Office, 54 Frederick Crescent, Port Ellen, Isle of Islay PA42 7BQ.
