PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) (SCOTLAND) ACT 1997

INVERNESS RIVERSIDE CONSERVATION AREA

Notice is hereby given, that on 23 January 2006 The Highland Council, as Planning Authority, designated Inverness Riverside as a Conservation Area. This is an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance.

It should be noted that the above area will be subject to controls to protect its character and appearance, with special regard to development and demolition as set out in Section 66 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997. In addition Section 172 of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997, subject to Section 173 of the Act, makes it an offence to cut down, top, lop, uproot, wilfully damage or wilfully destroy any tree in the Conservation Area without the consent of The Highland Council as Planning Authority or unless at least six weeks notice has been given to the said Planning Authority prior to such works to the tree(s) commencing and any such works to the tree(s) commencing within 2 years of the date of the said notice, all in terms of said Section 172. Listed Buildings (together with their curtilage) in the area remain subject to existing Listed Building Regulations.

A plan showing the boundaries of Inverness (Riverside) Conservation Area is available for inspection, free of charge at the Highland Council Offices, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness IV3 5NX, and the Area Planning Office, 1-3 Church Street, Inverness IV1 1DY between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm weekdays.

Notice is also hereby given that the existing Inverness Conservation Area within the city centre and along the riverside is revoked.
