Designation of Melton Constable Village Conservation Area

Notice is hereby given that the North Norfolk District Council, as Local Planning Authority, has, in accordance with the powers conferred on it by section 69 of the Listed Buildings Act 1990, designated as a Conservation Area, the part of its area described in the Schedule hereto.   The effect of the designation of this area is that special attention shall be paid to the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the designated area. The Listed Buildings Act 1990 makes it an offence, with certain exceptions, for anyone wishing to demolish a building, or part of a building, within a Conservation Area, to do so without first obtaining the consent of the Local Planning Authority. Section 211 Town and Country Planning Act 1990 controls the cutting down, lopping or uprooting of trees in a Conservation Area and specifies that the Local Planning Authority must be given 6 weeks notice of any intention to carry out such work.   The area will be known as the Melton Constable Village Conservation Area.   Plans showing the extent of the Conservation Area in detail may be inspected, free of charge, at the offices of the Chief Planning Officer, Council Offices, Holt Road, Cromer, Norfolk, at any time during normal office hours. Melton Constable Village Conservation Area

  The boundary runs east from the C227 (Thornage Road) north of St. Mary’s Church following the field boundary, it then turns south-west following the curve in field boundary towards Burgh Hall. From here it goes south then east along the northern boundary of the allotment gardens then south following the western boundary of the properties known as Stream Side and Burgh Beck Meadows where it joins the B1354. It then turns east along Briston Road then south between properties numbered 167 and 169 Briston Road, following the eastern boundary of the allotment gardens before turning west along a track to a point at the southern end of Grove Road from where it runs south-west then turns sharply north-west along the western boundary of the Bowling Green, west then north following the eastern edge of Marriott Way, it then goes north-west along northern boundary of the industrial units to the north side of Peacock Way. The boundary then turns south between the industrial units and the Telephone Exchange, joining Peacock Way before turning east along the southern boundary of the industrial unit to the south of Peacock Way. The boundary, on rejoining Marriott Way, then turns south then west, following a line just south of the old engine sheds, it again turns south then west encompassing the old water tower. From here it follows the western edge of the C277 (Hindolveston Road) north, crossing the B1354, it then turns east then north along the western edge of the carriageway of the C277 (Thornage Road) to complete the area. 7th January 1998.
