Notice of Traffic Management Order

The A205 Trunk Road (Southwark) Red Route (Side Roads) Experimental (No. 1) Traffic Order 1998

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Southwark, on 8th January 1998, made the above-mentioned Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.   The general effect of the Order would be to:   (a) prohibit all vehicles from stopping in lengths of Gallery Road, Alleyn Park, College Road, Lordship Lane, Melford Road, Underhill Road, Wood Vale and Sydenham Hill between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday inclusive;   (b) prohibit all vehicles from stopping in lengths of Sydenham Hill, Gallery Road, Alleyn Park, College Road and Lordship Lane at all times.   Certain exemptions will apply to vehicles displaying a disabled person’s orange badge, loading/unloading, etc., full details of which are described in the Order.   The Order provides that in pursuance of section 10(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Director Regeneration & Environment or some other person authorised in that behalf, by him, may if it appears to him or that person essential in the interests of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic or for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which any road affected by the Order runs and after:   (a) consulting with the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, and   (b) obtaining the consent of the Traffic Director for London may modify or suspend any provision of the Order, save no modification shall make an addition.   A copy of the Order, which will come into operation on 16th January 1998, of the Southwark Waiting & Loading Restrictions Traffic Order 1976, of plans and of the Council’s statement of reasons for making the Order and proceeding by way of experiment can be inspected during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays, inclusive, until the expiration of a period of 18 months from the date on which this notice is published in the Council Offices, Chiltern House, Portland Street SE17 2ES.   A copy of the Orders and further information may be obtained from Mr. Mufu Durowoju, Southwark Regeneration & Environment, Council Offices, Chiltern House, Portland Street, London SE17 2ES, tel: 0171-525 5473.   If the provisions of the Order continue in operation for a period of at least 6 months, the Southwark Borough Council will consider in due course whether the provisions of the Order should be reproduced and continued in force indefinitely by means of an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.   Within a period of 6 months from the coming into force of the Order or if the Order is subsequently varied by another Order under section 9 or modified pursuant to sub-section (2) of section 1 of the 1984 Act from the coming into operation of that variation or modification (whichever is latest), any person may object to the making of an Order for the purposes of such indefinite continuation and should send a statement in writing of their objection and grounds thereof to the Director of Regeneration & Environment, Council Offices, Chiltern House, Portland Street, London SE17 2ES, quoting reference PR/CQ/T1.2-249.   Any person desiring to question the validity of the Order or of any provisions contained therein on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any of the relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within 6 weeks of the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
