Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Southwark, on 8th January 1998, made the above-mentioned Order under sections 9 and 10 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.   The general effect of the Order will be to prohibit all vehicles except buses from entering or proceeding in the new bus lane to be created in Lordship Lane (A205), from a point 60 metres north-west of the north-western kerb-line of Melford Road to a point 56 metres south-east of the south-eastern kerb-line of Melford Road between the hours of 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays to Fridays inclusive.   A copy of the Order, which will come into operation on 16th January 1998, of plans and of the Council’s statement of reasons for making the Order and proceeding by way of experiment can be inspected during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays, inclusive until the expiration of a period of 18 months from the date on which this notice is published in the Council Offices, Chiltern House, Portland Street SE17 2ES.   A copy of the Order and further information may be obtained from Mr. Mufu Durowoju, Southwark Regeneration & Environment, Council Offices, Chiltern House, Portland Street, London SE17 2ES, tel: 0171-525 5473.   If the provisions of the Order continue in operation for a period of at least 6 months, the Southwark Borough Council will consider in due course whether the provisions of the Order should be reproduced and continued force indefinitely by means of an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.   If it appears to the Traffic Director for London, or some person authorised by him, essential in the interests of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic, or of the provision of suitable and adequate parking facilities on the highway, or for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which any road affected by this Order runs, and after consulting the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, he may modify or suspend any provision of this Order, save that no modification shall make an addition.   Within a period of 6 months from the coming into force of the Order or if the Order is subsequently varied by another Order under section 9 or modified pursuant to sub-section (2) of section 1 of the 1984 Act from the coming into operation of that variation or modification (whichever is latest), any person may object to the making of an Order for the purposes of such indefinite continuation and should send a statement in writing of their objection and grounds thereof to the Director of Regeneration & Environment, Council Offices, Chiltern House, Portland Street, London SE17 2ES, quoting reference PR/CQ/T1.2-249.   Any person desiring to question the validity of the Order or of any provisions contained therein on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any of the relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within 6 weeks of the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
