Speed Limit in Watling Street

Notice is hereby given that with the consent of the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions the Common Council of the City of London, on 23rd January 1998, the City of London (20 m.p.h. Speed Limit) Traffic Order 1998, under sections 84 and 124 of and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Local Government Act 1985, so as to continue in force indefinitely the provisions of the City of London (20 m.p.h. Speed Limit) Traffic Order 1996.
  The effect of the Order will be to impose a maximum speed limit of 20 m.p.h. in Watling Street, between its junction with Queen Street and its junction with Bread Street (a distance of approximately 160 metres).
  A copy of the Order, which will come into operation on 2nd February 1998, and of a plan showing the affected street, can be inspected during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive, until the end of 6 weeks from the date on which the Order was made, in The City Secretary’s Department, Guildhall, London EC2P 2EJ.
  Copies of the Order may be obtained from the City Engineer’s Department, Guildhall, London EC2P 2EJ.
  Any person desiring to question the validity of the Order, or of any provision contained therein, on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the relevant section of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or that any of the relevant requirements thereof, or of any relevant regulations made thereunder, has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may, within 6 weeks from the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
