Leatherhead Conservation Area

Notice is hereby given under the provisions of the 1990 Act that the Mole Valley District Council has extended the Leatherhead Conservation Area to include the areas described in the Schedule to this notice. The principal effects of these areas being included within a conservation area are as follows:   1. The Council is under a duty to prepare proposals to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the area;   2. consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in the area;   3. 6 weeks notice must be given to the Council before works are carried out to any tree in the area;   4. special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area;   5. in carrying out any functions under the Planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area;   6. express consent is required for illuminated signs on business premises and   7. additional restrictions apply to the installation of satellite dishes and antennae.

   North Street (south-west side): Area to north of No. 5, Nos. 9, 11-15, 17, 19 and 21.    North Street (east side): Nos. 2, 4, 6, 6 a, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16-18.    High Street (north side): Nos. 1-3, 5-7, 9 and 11.    Church Street (east side): Nos. 5, 7 (Thorndike Theatre entrance), 13-15, 17, 19, 21-23, 25 and 27.    Church Street (west side): Nos. 10, 12, 14-18, 16, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52-56, 54 and 58.    The Crescent (north side): No. 1   The precise boundaries of the conservation area, and the areas now included, are shown on plans that are available for inspection at the Help Shop, 25-29 High Street, Leatherhead, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays and between 8.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and at the Council Offices, Pippbrook, Dorking, between 8.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
