The A69 Trunk Road (Mowden Hall Junction) Experimental Order 1998

The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions hereby gives notice that he has made an experimental Order under sections 9(1) to (3) and 10(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, on the A69 Trunk Road at the Mowden Hall Junction in the district of Tynedale in the county of Northumberland, which comes into force on 1st March 1998.
  The effect of the Order is to:

  (i) prohibit right turning manoeuvres onto the A69 from both legs of the B6309 at the Mowden Hall Junction;
  (ii) prohibit traffic in the A69 eastbound carriageway from making a U-turn through the gap in the central reservation opposite Ovington Lane (C254); and
  (iii) prohibit traffic in the A69 westbound carriageway from making a U-turn through the 2 gaps in the central reservation opposite the C251 (north and south legs), at the Shaw House junction.

  The Order will be in operation for an experimental period of up to 18 months from the date the Order comes into force. The Order contains a provision under section 10(2) of the Act allowing a specified officer (the Director) to modify or suspend the operation of the Order or any provision of it if it appears to him essential in the interests of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic.
  A copy of the proposed Order, a plan illustrating the proposal and a statement explaining the Secretary of State’s reasons for proposing to make the Order may be inspected during office hours at Northumberland County Council, County Hall, Morpeth, at Tyneside District Council, Prospect House, Hexham, or at the public libraries at Hexham, Corbridge and Prudhoe. Copies may also be seen at or obtained by application to the Director, The Highways Agency, 9th Floor West, City House, New Station Street, Leeds LS1 4UR, quoting Ref. NNMD 2900/41/7/1.
  The Secretary of State will be considering in due course whether the provisions of this Order should be continued in force indefinitely. Any person desiring to object to the making of the Order for the purpose of continuing the restrictions in force indefinitely should send, between 27th February 1998 and 27th August 1998, a written statement of his or her objection and of the grounds thereof to the Director at the address given above.
