Brackley Conservation Area

Notice is given under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act, section 69, that the South Northamptonshire Council, after consulting with Northamptonshire County Council and Brackley Town Council, has determined, on 26th February 1998, to amend the boundary of the existing Brackley Conservation Area, as described in the Schedule to this notice.   For those parts of Brackley not previously included in the Conservation Area, the effect of conservation area designation is as follows:   1. Conservation area consent will now be required for the demolition of all unlisted buildings (other than excepted buildings) in the area.   2. Planning applications for development which would, in the opinion of the local planning authority, affect the character or appearance of the conservation area must be given publicity, and representations received as a result of the publicity must be taken into account in determining the application.   3. It becomes an offence, subject to certain exceptions to cut down, top, lop, uproot, wilfully damage or wilfully destroy any tree in the area except with the consent of the local planning authority.   4. The local planning authority are now under a duty to formulate and publish proposals for the preservation and enhancement of the area.   A map of the amended Conservation Area may be inspected, free of charge, during normal office hours at the offices of South Northamptonshire Council (Department of Planning and Development), Springfields, Towcester, Northamptonshire NN12 6AE. Schedule

  1. The Conservation Area is extended in Old Town to include Nos. 9 to 14 including “Brinmair” and No. 42 St. Peters Road.   2. The Conservation Area is extended to include Oddfellows Terrace, Nos. 121-135 High Street East, together with the tree lined grass verge on the opposite side of the road.   3. The Conservation Area is extended to include the remainder of the tree belt and boundary wall to the playing field in Manor Road opposite “Kenfield”.   4. The Conservation Area is extended to include Nos. 14 to 50 Banbury Road (south side) except Nos. 30-32 and to include on the north side of Banbury Road Nos. 37-39, the United Reformed Church and the former Police Station on the corner of Manor Road.   5. The Conservation Area is extended to include the remainder of the land and outbuildings behind Nos. 9 to 31 Market Place East up to the boundary with the playing fields.   6. The Conservation Area boundary is realigned behind the Magdalen School buildings and St. Johns Chapel to exclude a section of the school playing field from the Conservation Area.   7. The Conservation Area is extended along Bridge Street to include Nos. 24 to 38 (east side) and Nos. 1 to 43 (west side) together with No. 1 Herrieffs Farm Road.
