TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING ACT 1990

The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions hereby gives notice that he proposes to make an Order under section 247 of the above Act to authorise the stopping-up of the following highways on the Roundshaw Estate, Wallington, Sutton: the whole of Hermes Way, Barnard Close, Carter Close, Powell Close, Branker Close, Firefly Close, Goliath Close, Heracles Close, Gull Close, Cayley Close, Moore Close, Roe Way, Instone Close, Hinchcliff Close, De Havilland Road, Horsa Close, Hadrian Close, Vulcan Close, Hawker Close, Kingsford Avenue, Hinkler Close, Cane Close and Helena Close, parts of Alcock Close, Defiant Way, Damiler Way, Avro Way, Meteor Way, Mollison Drive, Vanguard Way and Lawford Close, together with other various unnamed areas of highways, footpaths, walkways, footbridges, ramps and stairways.   The proposed Order will not be made unless planning permission for the development described in the Schedule to this notice is granted, and in that event the stopping-up will be authorised only in order to enable the development to be carried out in accordance with that planning permission. Planning permission for that development was applied for to the London Borough of Sutton by Broadway Malyan on behalf of the London Borough of Sutton on 12th May 1997 under application number D97.41959/OUT.   The proposed Order will require improvements to Mollison Drive by widening and the provision of new footpaths/cycleways and highways maintainable at the public expense for which the London Borough of Sutton will be the local highway authority.   Copies of the draft Order and relevant plan may be inspected at all reasonable hours during 28 days commencing on 20th March 1998, at the offices of the London Borough of Sutton, Town Hall, 24 Denmark Road, Carshalton, Surrey, and may be obtained, free of charge, from the Government Office for London (quoting Ref. LRO 34/P5870/1/06) at the address stated below.   Any person may object to the making of the proposed Order within the period of 28 days commencing on 20th March 1998, by notice to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, quoting the above reference, at the Government Office for London, Transport Management Division, 8.W19, Riverwalk House, 157-161 Millbank, London SW1P 4RR.   In preparing an objection it should be borne in mind that the substance of it may be imparted to other persons who may be affected by it and that those persons may wish to communicate with the objector about it.   This notice is given by virtue of section 253 of the above Act.   Residential development involving the demolition of 1,143 units, the building of 1,105 new units, the refurbishment of remaining properties and the redevelopment of Lindberg Play Centre, together with associated access arrangements and car parking on the Roundshaw Housing Estate.
