Designation of Conservation Areas
The Canterbury City Council as Local Planning Authority in pursuance of section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, hereby give notice of the designation of Conservation areas within the area of the Canterbury City Council as set out in the Schedule below. The effect is that no buildings in the Conservation Areas (including in the definition of building any structure of any kind) may be demolished without conservation area consent to be granted by the Canterbury City Council (as Local Planning Authority) or of the Secretary of State for the Environment, subject to certain exceptions. Pursuant to section 211 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 it is also an offence to cut down, top, lop, uproot or cause wilful damage to any tree in the Conservation Areas, without giving 6 weeks notice to the Council or obtaining its consent also subject to certain exceptions. Details of the exceptions can be obtained from the Planning Department at the address below. The existence of the Conservation Areas referred to in the Schedule below will be revealed by the Local Land Charge Searches against properties included in the Areas. Copies of this notice and the relevant plans may be inspected in the Planning Department of the Council at the address given below during normal office hours. The Conservation Areas refer to the areas shown on the plans comprising the properties listed below and any other buildings, structures and walls within the boundary.
