The Croydon (Prescribed Route) (No.   ) Traffic Order 199  

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Croydon propose to make the above-mentioned Order under sections 6 and 124 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Local Government Act 1985.   The general effect of the Order, in connection with further bus priority network measures will be:   (a) to revoke the Croydon (Prescribed Routes) (No. 7) Traffic Order 1995 which made permanent the measures associated with the pedestrianisation of North End and to reproduce those measures with the following modifications;   (b) to reverse the one-way working in North End between its junctions with Tamworth Road and Poplar Walk to a south-eastbound direction;   (c) to introduce one-way working in Poplar Walk between its junctions with North End and Wellesley Road in a north-eastbound direction;   (d) to introduce one-way working in the Wellesley Road slip road at the junction of Poplar Walk in a north-westbound direction;   (e) to introduce a mandatory right turn for north-westbound traffic from North End into Poplar Walk;   (f) to introduce a mandatory left turn for south-eastbound traffic from North End into Poplar Walk;   (g) with the exception of buses, taxis and cycles, to ban all south-eastbound traffic in North End from turning left into Station Road;   (h) to introduce a mandatory left turn for south-eastbound traffic from St. Michael’s Road into Poplar Walk;   (i) to provide that northbound vehicles in Wellesley Road proceed ahead only when reaching the junction with Poplar Walk;   (j) to provide that southbound vehicles in Wellesley Road proceed ahead only when reaching the gap in the central reservation opposite the junction with Poplar Walk;   (k) to provide that north-eastbound traffic in Poplar Walk proceed ahead only when reaching the junction with St. Michael’s Road; and   (l) to provide that north-westbound traffic in the Wellesley Road slip road at the junction with Poplar Walk proceed ahead only into St. Michael’s Road when reaching the junction with Poplar Walk.   The prohibition and restrictions referred to above will not apply to:   (a) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police officer in uniform; or   (b) anything done in accordance with any restriction or requirement indicated by traffic signs placed on a highway by or on behalf of the Metropolitan Police.   A copy of the proposed Order (and of all related Orders) of the Council’s statement of reasons for proposing to make the Order and of a map indicating the lengths of road to which the proposed Order relates can be inspected until the expiration of a period of 21 days from the date on which this notice is published during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive at “One Stop” Facility, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon, Surrey.   Further information may be obtained by telephoning the Traffic Management Section, Public Services and Works Department, London Borough of Croydon, on 0181-686 4433, extension 4909.   Persons desiring to object to the proposed Order should send a statement in writing of their objection and the grounds thereof to the Order Making Section, Public Services and Works Department, London Borough of Croydon, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon, Surrey, quoting Ref.
