LONDON BOROUGH OF CROYDON
The Croydon (Prescribed Routes) (No.   ) Traffic Order 199  

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Croydon propose to make the above-mentioned Order under section 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Local Government Act 1985.   The general effect of the Order, in association with other traffic and bus priority network measures will be:   (a) to prohibit all vehicles in George Street, between Park Lane and High Street, Croydon;   (b) to prohibit all vehicles in High Street, Croydon, between George Street and Park Street;   (c) to revoke and re-introduce the ban on all vehicles in North End between George Street and Poplar Walk;   (d) to exempt security, post office vehicles, public service and utility vehicles, dial-a-ride vehicles and emergency service vehicles from the access bans in the lengths of North End, George Street and High Street, Croydon, mentioned above;   (e) to exempt tramcars and pedal cycles from the access bans in the lengths of George Street and High Street, Croydon, referred to above;   (f) to exempt pedal cycles and vehicles loading or unloading at premises in the lengths of George Street and High Street affected by the access ban;   (g) to exempt pedal cycles and vehicles loading or unloading at premises in the length of North End affected by the access ban between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 a.m. the following morning;   (h) to provide that all exempt vehicles in the prohibited length of George Street proceed in a south-westerly direction only from the Park Lane end;   (i) to provide that all exempt vehicles in the prohibited length of High Street, Croydon, proceed in a southerly direction only from the George Street end;   (j) to provide that all exempt vehicles in the prohibited length of North End proceed in a north-westerly direction only from the George Street end;   (k) to extend the southbound one-way working in High Street, Croydon, from its junction with George Street to the junction with Katharine Street;   (l) to introduce one-way working in Park Street between its junctions with St. George’s Walk and High Street, Croydon, in a south-westerly direction;   (m) to provide that all northbound vehicles with the exception of buses, taxis and pedal cycles in St. George’s Walk turn left only into Park Street;   (n) to provide that all south-westbound vehicles in Park Street turn left only into High Street, Croydon;   (o) to provide that all southbound vehicles with the exception of buses, taxis and pedal cycles in High Street, Croydon, turn left only into Katharine Street;   (p) to prohibit north or southbound vehicles in Wellesley Road from making U turn manouevres when reaching the gap in the central reservation of Wellesley Road, located opposite the junction with Poplar Walk.   The prohibition and restrictions referred to above will not apply to:   (a) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police officer in uniform; or   (b) anything done in accordance with any restriction or requirement indicated by traffic signs placed on a highway by or on behalf of the Metropolitan Police.   A copy of the proposed Order (and of all related Orders) of the Council’s statement of reasons for proposing to make the Order and of a map indicating the lengths of road to which the proposed Order relates can be inspected until the expiration of a period of 21 days from the date on which this notice is published during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive at “One Stop” Facility, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon, Surrey.   Further information may be obtained by telephoning the Traffic Management Section, Public Services and Works Department, London Borough of Croydon, on 0181-686 4433, extension 4908.   Persons desiring to object to the proposed Order should send a statement in writing of their objection and the grounds thereof to the Order Making Section, Public Services and Works Department, London Borough of Croydon, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon, Surrey, quoting Ref.
