The Bexley (Prohibition of Stopping Outside Schools) (Amendment No.   ) Traffic Order 199  

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Bexley propose to make the above-mentioned Order under sections 6 and 124 of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by section 8 of and Part 1 of Schedule 5 to the Local Government Act 1985 and sections 63 to 82 inclusive and Schedules 6 and 7 to the Road Traffic Act 1991.   Further information regarding the above Traffic Order may be obtained by contacting the Traffic Section of the London Borough of Bexley, telephone number 0181-303 7777, ext. 2974.   2. The general effect of the Order would be to prohibit any vehicle from stopping, during school term time between 8 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays to Fridays inclusive, on the lengths of “School Keep Clear” markings in the roads listed in the Schedules to this notice.   3. The prohibitions referred to in paragraph 2 above would not apply:   (a) if a vehicle stops in order to avoid an accident or when required to do so by law;   (b) to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform;   (c) in relation to any vehicle used for ambulance, fire brigade or police purposes;   (d) to anything done in accordance with any restriction or requirement indicated by traffic signs placed on the highway by or on behalf of the Metropolitan Police;   (e) to a school bus or school meals vehicle while engaged in loading/unloading, if it is not practicable or legally possible to do so elsewhere;   (f) a public service vehicle waiting at a scheduled bus stop.   4. A coach hired by a school for transporting children between the school and any other location is exempted from the restrictions imposed by the Bexley (Prohibition of Stopping Outside Schools) Traffic Order 1994.   5. Copies of the proposed Order, the Bexley (Prohibition of Stopping Outside Schools) Traffic Order 1994 (and the Orders that have amended that Order), plans which indicate the length of roads to which the Order relates and the Council’s statement of reasons for proposing to make the Order can be inspected during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive until the expiration of a period of 21 days from the date on which this notice is published at The Information Centre, London Borough of Bexley, Bexley Civic Offices, Bexleyheath, Kent DA6 7LB.   6. Persons desiring to object to the proposed Order should send a statement in writing of their objections and the grounds thereof to the Chief Engineer, London Borough of Bexley, Civic Offices, Bexleyheath, Kent DA6 7LB, within the above-mentioned 21 days.   7. Persons objecting to the proposed Order should be aware that in view of the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985, the council would be legally obliged to make any comments received to this notice, open to public inspection.
