OPENCAST COAL ACT 1958

The Nant Helen Extension (Suspension of Public Rights of Way) Order 1997

On 21st July 1998, the Secretary of State for Wales in exercise of his powers under section 15 of the Opencast Coal Act 1958, confirmed the Nant Helen Extension (Suspension of Public Rights of Way) Order 1997, made by the Coal Authority upon the application of Celtic Energy Ltd., suspending the rights of way described below. The Order will come into operation on 1st September 1998.   A copy of the Order and the map to which it refers may be inspected at the headquarters of Celtic Energy Ltd., at Aberaman, Aberdare; at the Company’s Nant Helen Site Office, and at Powys County Council Planning Department, County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, at all reasonable hours between 1st and 15th September 1998. Schedule 1

Existing Rights of Way to be suspended

  1. That part of Footpath No. 11 in the community of Ystradgynlais, Powys, which extends 215 metres from a point 230 metres south-east of Gwern Gyrlais Farmstead, near Penrhos, to a point 445 metres south-east of that Farmstead.   2. That part of Footpath No. 40 in the community of Ystradgynlais, Powys, which extends 1,760 metres south-eastward from a point on the disused railway line 500 metres south-east of Little London, to a point 200 metres east of Bryn Llechwen on Mynydd y Drum.   3. Alternative Right of Way No. 1 (1986) (as Authorised by the Secretary of State for Wales in 1986) in the community of Ystradgynlais, Powys, which extends 1,825 metres from a point 340 metres south-south-east of Gwern-y-Gilfach Farmstead, to a point 420 metres east-north-east of Bryn Llechwen on Mynydd y Drum.

Schedule 2

Alternative Rights of Way to be created

  1. Alternative Right of Way No. 1 (1997) which commences on the disused railway line 350 metres south-south-east of Little London, extends south-westward for 560 metres, then along a track parallel to the former railway line for a further 480 metres and then eastward for a distance of 200 metres to joint Footpath No. 11 at a point approximately 300 metres east of Hendre-ladis.   2. Alternative Right of Way No. 2 (1997) which commences on the disused railway line at a point approximately 234 metres south-south-west of Gwern-y-Gilfach Farmstead, extends south-westward along the line for a distance of approximately 720 metres to connect with Alternative Way No. 1 at a point approximately 350 metres south-south-east of Little London. 4th August 1998.
