(40 M.P.H. SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 199
The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions hereby gives
notice that he proposes to make the above-named Order under section 84(1)(a) and (2)
and 122A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on the A30 Trunk Road in the county
of Devon.
The effect of the Order would be to impose a speed limit of 40 m.p.h. on the following
lengths of the new A30 Trunk Road between Honiton and Exeter:
(a) on both the westbound carriageway and the eastbound carriageway from a point
30 metres east of the centreline of the Sowton Lane Overbridge to the Motorway Overbridge
at Junction 29 where the Trunk Road joins the A3015 Principal Road.
(b)(i) the slip road leading to the westbound carriageway, starting from its junction
with Sowton Lane; and
(ii) the slip road leading from the eastbound carriageway, terminating at its junction
with the old A30 at the Redhayes junction.
A separate 40 m.p.h. Speed Limit Order will be made by Devon County Council over
a length of the A3015 Principal Road to cover the unrestricted length that remains
between the end of Devon County Council’s existing 40 m.p.h. Speed Limit Order on
Honiton Road and the proposed length of the 40 mph speed restriction on the A30 Trunk
Road.
A copy of the draft Order, of a plan illustrating the proposal and of a statement
explaining why the Secretary of State proposes to make the Order may be inspected
during office hours at the offices of the Highways Agency, Falcon Road, Sowton, Exeter,
at those of Devon County Council, County Hall, Topsham Road, Exeter, and East Devon
District Council, Council Offices, Knowle, Sidmouth, and during opening hours at Clyst
Honiton Post Office.
Any person desiring to object to the Secretary of State’s proposal should send, not
later than 10th November 1999, a written statement of his or her objection and of
the grounds thereof to the DBFO Manager, Project Services, Highways Agency, Falcon
Road, Sowton, Exeter, Devon EX2 7LB, quoting the reference HA28/2/40.
