NOTICE OF APPLICATION TO VARY LICENCES TO ABSTRACT WATER

Notice is hereby given that an application is being made to the Environment Agency by Severn Trent Water Limited, of 2297 Coventry Road, Birmingham B26 3PU, to vary two licences (18/54/1/175 and 18/54/1/177) to abstract for public water undertaking as specified: (i) Licence number 18/54/1/175 authorises abstraction from underground strata (river gravel deposits) at Llandinam, Powys, at SO 0239 8954, SO 0230 8947, SO 0241 8962, by means of three boreholes. (ii) Licence number 18/54/1/177 authorises abstraction from Clywedog Reservoir at SN 912 870 at Bryntail, Llanidloes, Powys. The variations being applied for are: (i) Licence number 18/54/1/175: To include a new borehole at SK 0236 8920; To increase the quantities permitted from 5,856,000 cubic metres per year to 6,588,000 cubic metres per year and from 18,500 cubic metres per day to 24,000 cubic metres per day. (ii) Licence number 18/54/1/77: To reduce the quantities permitted for public water undertaking from 912,500,000 gallons per year (4,148,225 cubic metres) to 7,320 cubic metres per year and from 2,500,000 gallons per day (11,365 cubic metres) to 20 cubic metres per day; To authorise up to 4,140,905 cubic metres per year and up to 11,345 cubic metres per day to be released to the Afon Clywedog and River Severn as support for the proposed increased abstractions at Llandinam. The quantities to be released will be determined by reference to a prescribed flow on the River Severn and operating rules to be agreed with the Environment Agency. A copy of the application and any maps, plans and other documents submitted with it may be inspected, free of charge, at the offices of Severn Trent Water Ltd., at 2297 Coventry Road, Birmingham, and at Llandinam Post Office, Llandinam, Powys, at all reasonable hours during the period beginning on 1st November 1999 and ending on 30th November 1999.
